Showdown on the Shore Turned Up the Heat

First and foremost we want to Thank every racer, spectator, and crew member that joined us this past weekend for the Inaugural Showdown On the Shore. This amazing event and turnout would not have been possible without all of you.

Monday, we sent out a short thank you message to express our gratitude to everyone who participated in our event this past weekend. As you may know, my wife, Pee Wee, and I are the only full-time employees working at both businesses. Pee Wee's dedication and commitment to us are truly invaluable. In addition to our full-time staff, we also have a few part-time helpers who assist us when they can.

My semi-retired father, who is 82 years young, is an inspiration to me, and I'm grateful to still have him around. We also appreciate Mark Langdon, aka Taco, who always stops by after his full-time job to lend a hand. Thanks to Dave Keyton for coming over early to lend a hand getting the track surface ready. Lastly, we'd like to thank Bobby's Lawn Care and his daughter for their help in maintaining the facility's grounds.

This past weekend was extremely challenging due to the high temperatures, which exceeded 140 degrees track temps on Saturday. The track conditions were difficult for some participants, and we were frustrated because we strive to provide the best possible surface. We consulted with the TLR Promotion staff and decided to stop the program temporarily to ensure everyone's safety and make necessary adjustments to the track. We appreciate Tarrell and Ricky's understanding and cooperation in this matter.

Although Sunday's temperatures were even higher, the overcast skies helped keep the track temperature in the low to mid-130s. We conducted some experiments and gathered valuable data that will help us improve the track conditions this summer. We're grateful for the kind words and appreciation expressed by our participants and staff.

We're proud to have a dedicated and hardworking team, and we appreciate their tireless efforts. Special thanks to our weekend staff, who worked a 40-hour week this past weekend: Dawn Cox, Mark Langdon, Charles DeHaven, Michael Jefferson, Jeff Richardson, Robert Brooks, Glenn Lathbury, Mike Passwaters, Annette Cottman, Kandy Truitt, EMT Rena Brooks, Christie Cook, and L'Oréal Vaughn. In addition to those that jump in and help and aren’t even on our payroll, Brooke Dehaven and Lorie Clough!
