U.S.13 Dragway Prepares to Commence its 62nd Year of Operations
Delmar, DE -
The staff of SDM Promotions LLC is poised to begin the 62nd year for US 13 Dragway and their fourth year of operations on Saturday, March 1, with the 1st State No Prep Season Opener. This event will bring together the best no prep racers from several states to Delaware. With the mid-track starting line, drivers must fine-tune their hot rods to complete the 660-foot run and be the first to finish. The rain date for this event, if necessary, will be Saturday, March 8. Our first Daily Driver will be held on March 8, if this date is not needed for the No Prep rain date, gates opening at 10 am.
The bracket season will begin with the year's first test and tune on Saturday, March 22, with gates opening at 10 a.m. and test and tune running from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Test and tune will cost $50, and spectators/crew will be charged $15.
This year, the Dragway will partner with the Bad Mouf Crew for three significant grudge events. The first event will take place on April 4 and 5, the second on August 8 and 9, and the season finale on October 3 and 4, featuring the 2nd Annual Cell Break GrudgeFest.
Track Championship and WDRA World Finals points will begin the weekend of April 11 through 13. Bracket racers can expect changes for the 2025 season. Friday nights will feature a mix of various events, including test and tune, pit vehicle races, practice tree shootouts, and more.
In addition to Friday nights, points this season will be awarded to everyone who competes at each bracket points event. Previously, racers had to pay to sign up for points. This year, the cost has been eliminated, allowing everyone a chance to participate in the program, including WDRA and Track Points Championship. Special Note: For those drivers who prepaid for points, refunds will be issued.
Another change in 2025, we will not be allowing anyone in the facility before the gate opening times posted. All drivers and fans will stage out front at the ticket booth for entry. The SDM staff believes this is the fairest approach for all racers and fans. In the past, racers were allowed to enter at any time and were trusted to report to the gate to purchase weekend admission and tech cards. This caused issues for front gate personnel, leading to complaints and the decision to hold everyone outside the gates until the posted times. Employees will be allowed to enter earlier to prepare for their start times.
Gate opening times for all bracket points weekends will be 9 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday time runs will begin at 11 a.m., and Sunday time runs will begin at 10 a.m.
Reserved parking spots will be honored each bracket weekend and the HillBilly Bracket Bash. However, reserved parking will not be honored at the Coastal Clash and Showdown on the Shore events, as these are organized by outside promoters.
The racing program will undergo a few changes. Buybacks will be run in a separate round for 2025. After reviewing the 2024 records, it was determined that there was no significant time-saving benefit, and this approach puts all racers on the same round payouts. Third-round loser money will still be offered, and a new sliding scale payout will be implemented in 2025, as voted on by the racers at the end of the 2024 season. A copy of each class payout is posted on the website, delawareracing.com.
Be sure to mark these special events on your calendar:
- Coastal Clash: April 25-27
- HillBilly Bracket Bash: May 16-18
- Showdown on the Shore: June 20-22
- 62nd Anniversary Chevy Show, Shine and Drags: August 22-24
- Mid Atlantic Jr Dragster Championships (more information forthcoming): October 10-12
- King of the Street/All Truck Challenge: October 17-19
- Halloween Shootout: October 31 - November 2
It will soon be time to experience the thrill of drag racing and smell the race gas and burn some rubber for the 62nd year. We look forward to having everyone back in 2025.
