RYAN HUNTINGTON & BILLY GROTON SPLIT BAD 8 FINALS FRIDAY AT U.S. 13

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – The Bad 8 held up to their name with six second runs and some great side by side racing Friday night at the U.S. 13 Dragway. Billy Groton of Seaford, Del. made it three for four in the Bad 8 Full Body this season and Ryan Huntington of Princess Anne, Md. captured his first Bad 8 Open Wheel of the year. Phillip Truitt of Parsonsburg, Md. was back on top in Super Pro while Chad Thurman of Vienna, Md. took Pro and Marquise Blake of Frankford, Del. rode to the win in Pro Bike. Other winners on the night included: Frank Parks of Denton, Md. in Street; Jerry Wilkerson of Delmar, Md. in Hot Rod; Keith Riiddle of Millsboro, Del. in Jr Dragster 1 and Jacob Bowie of Greensboro, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2.

The Bad 8 Open Wheel final was almost a heads up start between Ryan Huntington and Glenn Reese of New Castle, Del. but Reese left too early and fouled. Huntington ran dead on his dial with a 7.600/174.99 on a 7.60 for the win. Jimmy Hitchens of Millsboro set Low E.T. in qualifying with a 6.942 and Brian Kunkowski set Top Speed at 194.67 mph.

It was Camaro against Mustang in the Bad 8 Full Body final as Billy “the Kid� Groton took on “Tyrannosaurs� Rex Lilly of Laurel. Groton sealed the deal at the starting line with a .006 reaction and a run of 8.321/149.95 on an 8.25 dial. Lilly had a .026 and ran an 8.734/155.52 on an 8.66 dial. Groton was the No. 1 qualifier with an 8.248 E.T. and Top Speed was set by Don Teague of Newark, Del. with a 169.71.

Phillip Truitt met Vance Owens of Georgetown, Del. in the Super Pro final. Truitt took the win with an 8.196/152.31 on an 8.16 dial. Owens had a 10.776/121.72 on a 10.71 dial. Semi-finalists were Huntington who lost to Truitt and Paul Riddle of Millsboro who lost to Owens.

In the Pro final it was Chad Thurman facing Tim Foskey, Jr. of Rhodesdale, Md. Foskey had a red light foul and Thurman ran a 9.823/13595 on a 9.81 for the win. Semi-finalists were Janet Baden of Millersville, Md. who lost to Thurman and Daryl Beauchamp of Princess Anne who lost to Foskey.

Marquies Blake rode up against Travis Irving of Selbyville, Del. in the Pro Bike final. Blake had the better reaction time and rode to the win with a 9.179/140.93 on a 9.16 dial. Irving as late and broke out with a 9.025/149.90 on a 9.04 dial. Semi-finalists were Brian Wongus of Cambridge, Md. who lost to Blake and James Farmer of Denton who lost to Irving.

Frank Parks took the win in Street for the second consecutive week. It was a very close run with Sara Davis of Laurel as Parks was dead on his dial with an 11.810/111.11 on an 11.81. Davis was almost dead on with a 12.992/101.86 on a 12.99 dial. In Hot Rod it was Jerry Wilkerson over Wayne Phippin of Delmar. Phippin had the better reaction but broke out with an 11.580/107.13 on an 11.61 dial. Wilkerson was out by less with an 11.374/117.14 on an 11.40 dial.

In Jr. Dragster action it was Keith Riddle up against Nyck Shirkey of Ridgely, Md. in Jr. 1. Riddle had the better start and won with an 8.949/70.13 on an 8.92 dial. Shirkey ran a 9.268/69.98 on a 9.17 dial. Jacob Bowie remained perfect for the last two weeks in the Jr. 2 final winning over Mathew Wilkinson of Salisbury. Bowie had the better reaction and won with a 7.985/81.49 on a 7.98 dial. Wilkinson broke out with a 7.896/82.65 on a 7.90 dial.

This Friday night will be another Summit E.T. Racing Series Event. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. with time runs at 4:30 and eliminations starting at approximately 8:30 p.m.
