700 SHOW & RACE CARS MAKE U.S. 13 DRAGWAY'S 50TH A HUGE SUCCESS

crowd 2By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – The 50th Anniversary William J. & Juanita Cathell Memorial Chevy Show, Shine and Drags will be talked about for days and long remembered. Fans from all over turned out in record numbers to celebrate  the anniversary  and were treated to a car show with 307 entries and a full day and evening of racing by 393 racers for a total of an even 700 participants in the event!

Tim O’Hare in his Pro Mod Camaro and Steve Drummond in his Pro Mod Mustang were on hand for an exhibition match race. The first two rounds both cars had a tough time getting hold of the track and had to get off the throttle. Even with that, Drummond went 204.22 in the first round. Both cars coasted through in the second round but in round three, O’Hare unleashed a 6.245/237.78 for low E.T. and top speed for the day. Drummond had to petal early but still managed a 6.844/210.23.

Eric Mason of Pocomoke, Md. became the 14th different winner this season in Super Pro. Tim Foskey of Rhodesdale, Md. took the win in Pro while James Farmer continued his winning ways In Pro Bike. Other winners on the day included: Gary Stickles of Delmar, Md. in Street; Nyck Shirkey of Ridgely, Md. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Michael Ennis of Delmar, Del. in Jr. Dragster 2.

The Super Pro class was the quickest ever with several cars running under seven seconds in the quarter-mile. In the final round it was Eric Mason in his seven second dragster facing Frankie Timmons of Bishopville, Md. in his ten second Camaro. Mason would take the double break out win with a 7.588/174.89 on a 7.59 dial. Timmons was out by more with a 10.057/132.35 on a 10.07 dial. Semi-finalists were Brooks Moore of Salisbury, Md. who lost to Mason and Danny Bastianelli of Georgetown, Del. who lost to Timmons.

Tim Foskey has  come on strong in Pro in the month of August and picked up his second win on Sunday. Foskey in his Chevelle met Daryl Beauchamp of Princess Anne, Md. in his Z28 in the final round. Foskey had the better reaction at the start and took the victory with a 9.388/130.81 on a 9.36 dial. Beauchamp ran a 9.079/142.99 on a 9.01 dial. Semi-finalist was Crystal Hudson of Millsboro, Del. who lost to Foskey while Beauchamp had the bye.

James Farmer demonstrated why he is at the top of the Pro Bike standings as he rode to his sixth win of the season. Farmer rode up against Carlous Collins of Frankford, Del. in the final. Farmer’s .010 reaction light was all it took as he rode to the win with an 8.623/136.73 on an 8.59 dial. Collins had a 10.019/141.13 on a 10.00 dial. Semi-finalist was Harvey Powell of Salisbury who lost to Collins while Farmer had the bye.

The Street final paired Gary Stickles in his ’78 Fairmont and Chuck Wayne in his ’80 Monte Carlo. Stickles was on his dial and drove to his fourth win of the year with a 13.735/96.37 on a 13.73 dial. Wayne broke out with an 11.809/113.75 on an 11.81 dial.  Drivers in Super Pro, Pro, Pro Bike and Street all received “Wally trophies for their wins.

The day produced a pair of first time winners for the 2013 season in the Jr. Dragsters. In Jr. Dragster 1 it was Nyck Shirkey over Brittany Hooper of Hurlock, Md. Shirkey ran a 13.023/49.95 on a 12.99 dial for the win. Hooper was late at the start but ran a quick 8.949/72.20 on an 8.91 dial. In Jr. Dragster 2 it was Michael Ennis taking on Jerel Davis of Salisbury. Davis left early and fouled allowing Ennis to run an 8.308/77.48 on an 8.31 dial for his first win of the year.

Thanks to everyone including “Mother Nature for making the 50th Anniversary such a huge success. This Sunday the action continues with the 7th Annual Ford Show, Shine and Drags plus the 422 All-Stars and a full program of NHRA Summit E.T. Racing Series action.
