LILLEY AND KUNKOWSKI TAKE BAD 8 FINALS SUNDAY

By Charlie Brown, DELMAR, DE – A couple of new winners came out on top in the Bad 8 finals on Sunday at the U.S. 13 Dragway. Rex Lilley of Laurel, Del. drove his ’88 Mustang to the win in the Bad 8 Full Body final and Brian Kunkowski of Laurel drove his dragster to the win in Bad 8 Open Wheel. In Super Pro it was Glenn Reese of New Castle, Del. taking the final round and Jim Williams of Seaford, Del. won in Pro. Other winners on the day included James Farmer of Denton, Md. in Pro Bike; Frank Parks of Denton, Md. in Street; Dacia Powell of Salisbury, Md. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Willow Gunter of Delmar in Jr. Dragster 2.

 

Rex Lilley faced Steven Truitt of Parsonsburg, Md. in the Bad 8 Full Body final. Truitt had a red light foul and Lilley took the victory with an 8.827/154.26 on an 8.81 dial. Don Teague of Newark, Del. in his 67 Chevy II set Low E.T. and Top Speed in qualifying with a 7.959/172.14.  In the Open Wheel final it was  Brian Kunkowski facing Mike Jones of Salisbury. Kunkowski had a .003 reaction light and ran a 7.192/188.12 on a 7.18 dial for the win. Jones had a solid 7.709/169.68 on a 7.68 dial. Kunkowski set Low E.T. and Top Speed in qualifying with a 7.142/191.08.

 

The Super Pro final matched Glenn Reese and Kunkowski. Reese ended Kunkowski’s perfect day with a double break out win running an 8.283/162.04 on an 8.29 dial. Kunkowski was out by more with a 7.151/1899.79 on a 7.18 dial. Semi-finalists were Vic Gordy of Ellendale, Del. who lost to Kunkowski and Brooks Moore of Salisbury who lost to Reese.

 

Jim Williams went up against John Henderson of Frederica, Del. in the Pro final. Williams had the better reaction and took the win with a 9.493/132.05 on a 9.47 dial. Henderson ran an 11.971/109.87 on an 11.96 dial. Semi-finalists were Daryl Beauchamp of Princess Anne, Md. who lost to Henderson and Vincent Wade of Eden Md. who lost to Williams.

 

James Farmer made it two in a row in Pro Bike defeating Harvey Powell of Salisbury in final. Farmer had the better reaction and rode to the win with an 8.878/128.70 on an 8.85 dial. Powell made it close running a 9.671/133.78 on a 9.66 dial. Semi-finalist was Eddie Savage, Jr. of Wallops Island, Va. who lost to Farmer while Powell had the bye.

 

Defending champion, Frank Parks was back in the Street final facing Ronn Carey of Dagsboro, Del. Parks drove his ’73 Mustang to the double break out win with an 11.864/112.07 on an 11.88 dial. Carey ran an 11.771/114.72 on an 11.79 dial.

Dacia Powell continued her winning ways in Jr. Dragster 1 with a win over Cody Drummond of Laurel. Powell had the better start and took the win with a 9.099/71.28 on a 9.07 dial. Drummond had a 12.934/49.15 on a 12.90 dial. In Jr. Dragster 2, Willow Gunter was paired with Jerel Davis of Salisbury. Gunter took the victory with an 8.023/79.63 on an 8.02 dial for the win. Davis ran a 7.964/79.92 on a 7.90 dial.

 

This Sunday will be double points plus Summit E.T. Racing Series action. Gates open at 10 a.m. with time runs at 11  a.m. and eliminations at 2 p.m.
