KUNKOWSKI TAKES SUPER – BOWIE WINS SHOOT-OUT

By Charlie Brown, DELMAR, DE – Finally beautiful weather graced the U.S. 13 Dragway Sunday producing some great competition. Driving the fastest car in the field, Brian Kunkowski of Laurel, Del. captured the Super Pro final at over 190 miles per hour. Glen Isom of New Castle, Del. drove his blazing Chevy Blazer to the win in the Pro and multi-time champion, James Farmer was back on top in Pro Bike. Defending champion Frank Parks of Denton, Md. topped the Street Eliminator field. James Paylor of North East, Md. got his first win in Jr. Dragster 1 while Jacob Bowie of Greensboro, Md. won both Jr. Dragster 2 and the Jr. Dragster Shoot-Out.

 

Kunkowski faced Glenn Reese of New Castle, Del. in the all-dragster Super Pro final. Kunkowski had a .009 reaction and blasted to the win with a 6.979/194.88 on a 6.96 dial-in. Reese ran a solid 8.176/164.47 on an 8.16 dial. Semi-finalists were Frankie Timmons of Bishopville, Md. who lost to Reese and Billy Groton of Seaford, Del. who lost to Kunkowski.

 

In the Pro final round it was Glen Isom up against Buddy Layfield of Parsonsburg, Md. in his Dodge. Layfield had the slightly better start but was off his dial and Isom got the win in his wheel standing Blazer with a 10.270/111.69 on a 10.04 dial. Layfield ran a 14.275/91.10 on a 13.55 dial. Semi-finalist was Ben Garnett of Smyrna, Del. who lost to Layfield while Isom had the bye.

 

James Farmer on his Hayabusa rode up against the Kawasaki of Anthony Buckson in the Pro Bike final. Farmer had the better reaction and rode to the win with an 8.701/131.31 on an 8.62 dial. Buckson ran a 9.242/139.16 on a 9.17 dial. Semi-finalists were Earl Davis of Parksley, Va. who lost to Buckson and Harvey Powell of Salisbury who lost to Farmer.

 

Frank Parks in his ’83 Ford Thunderbird met Hunter Milligan of Bridgeville, Del. in the Street final. Parks won with an 11.771/106.67 on an 11.74 dial. Milligan was late at the start then broke out with a 14.349/96.22 on a 14.40 dial.

 

It was the second of the Jr. Dragster Shoot-Outs this season. Taking the Jr. Dragster 1 win for the first time was James Paylor who defeated Tyler Karr of Georgetown, Del. Paylor ran a 13.407/46.75 on a 13.32 dial while Karr broke out with an 8.944/72.52 on a 9.05 dial. In Jr. 2 it was Jacob Bowie defeating Herby Sullivan of Ridgely, Md. Bowie ran a 7.966/80.32 on a 7.90 dial while Sullivan left too soon and fouled. In the Shoot-Out Bowie had the slight edge at the start in the close run and took the win with a 7.966/80.32 on a 7.90 dial while Paylor ran a 13.388/46.69 on a 13.32 dial.

 

This Sunday the “Bad 8� returns for the third time this season plus Summit E.T. Racing Series action. Gates open at 10 a.m. with qualifying at 11 a.m. and eliminations at 2:30 p.m.
