U.S. 13 DRAGWAY MORNS LOSS OF MRS. JUANITA CATHELL

Obituary for Mrs. Juanita Bounds Cathell

 

Juanita Jane Bounds Cathell, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, April 29th, 2012 at the age of 91. Born in Salisbury on December 20th, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Lillian Bounds of Siloam.

In Juanita’s younger years she was a beautician and a homemaker. In 1963, she and her late husband started the family business. They worked tirelessly to make the U.S. 13 Dragway and Delaware International Speedway a successful family business which still operates today after 49 years. Many generations of race fans have attended and continue to enjoy the weekend races that they made possible. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her for her dedication to her family, her kindness and generosity.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William J. Cathell and a brother, Billy Bounds.

She is survived by her 3 children, Charles Cathell & his wife, Joyce, Dawn Brown & her husband, David and Hal Cathell & his wife, Lisa; 3 grandchildren, Mark Cathell, Cortney Cathell and Jamie Tregoe; 7 great grandchildren, Chad, McKinsey and Chase Cathell, Katie Bromwell, Addie, Kemp and Lynnleigh Tregoe; and a brother, Sammy Bounds.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 11:00am at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury with Rev. Carol Carlson officiating. There will be a visitation on Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 9:00pm and also on Thursday one hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow at the Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Riverside United Methodist Church, 608 Riverside Dr., Salisbury, MD 21801 and or Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802 and or the Peninsula Regional Medical Center Foundation, 100 E. Carroll St., Salisbury, MD 21801
