MIKE HOOPER DOUBLES WITH BAD 8 AND SUPER PRO WINS

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (7/22/11) – Mike Hooper of Hurlock, Md. beat the heat and the rest of the competition to win both the Bad 8 Full Body final and then the Super Pro final Friday night at the U.S. 13 Dragway. It was his second Bad 8 win in a row. Eric Mason of Pocomoke, Md. took the win in Bad 8 Open Wheel and Ryan Groton of Salisbury, Md. was the victor in Pro. Other winners on the night included: Bruce Murphy of Wilmington, Del. in Pro Bike; Harvey Powell of Salisbury in Bike Trophy; Chelsea Williams of Seaford, Del. in Street; Alex Bradford of Newark, Md. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Vance Price, Jr. of Vienna, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2.

 

Mike Hooper went up against last week’s Super Pro winner, David Lowe of Salisbury in the Bad 8 Full Body final. Hooper had the better reaction light and took the win with both drivers running their dial-ins. Hooper ran an 8.058/170.81 on an 8.05 dial while Lowe had a 9.019/147.83 on a 9.01 dial. Hooper set Low E.T. and Top Speed in qualifying with an 8.090/173.81. The Open Wheel final pitted Eric Mason against Jamie Russell of Dover, Del. Russell had a .001 reaction but Mason was on his dial to take the win. Mason ran a 7.935/164.95 on a 7.93 dial while Russell had a 7.936/169.20 on a 7.88 dial. Low E.T. was set by Danny Bastianelli with a 7.550 and Top Speed went to Jack Moore at 179.82.

 

Hooper advanced through the Super Pro eliminations to face Ben Parks of Salisbury in the final. Parks had a red light foul and Hooper finished a great night by cruising to the finish at 72.41 miles per hour. Semi-finalists were Jesse Truitt of Parsonsburg, Md. who lost to Hooper and W.R. Ketterman of Salisbury who lost to Parks.

 

Ryan Groton was paired against Justin Abbott of Greenwood, Del. in the Pro final. Groton took the double break out win with a 10.329/129.12 on a 10.35 dial. Abbott was out by more with a 10.460 on a 10.49 dial. Semi-finalist was Tim Foskey, Jr. who lost to Abbott while Groton had a bye.

 

Bruce Murphy rode up against last week’s winner, James Farmer of Denton, Md. in the Pro Bike final. Farmer broke out with a 9.378 on a 9.38 dial and Murphy rode to the win with a 10.342/125.12 on a 10.30 dial for the win. Semi-finalist was John Bartkovich of Salisbury who lost to Murphy while Farmer had the bye.

 

Chelsea Williams made it two in a row in winning the Street final. Williams went up against David Kellam of Ellendale, Del. The pair was even at the start but Williams had the better run and took the win with an 11.341/115.10 on an 11.32 dial. Kellam had a 12.223/110.53 on a 12.16 dial.

 

Harvey Powell continued to chalk up the wins in Bike Trophy on his Kawasaki quad. Powell took advantage of a red light foul by Alan Montalvo of Seaford and ran a 17.151/66.30 on a 17.20 dial for the win.

 

Alex Bradford continues to be in the hunt for the Jr. Dragster 1 point lead as he defeated Jacob Bowie of Greensboro, Md. Bradford was on his dial and took the win with a 9.354/68.92 on a 9.35 dial to move into second spot in the points. Bowie ran a solid 9.068/70.09 on a 9.02 dial. In Jr. Dragster 2 it was Vance Price, Jr. over Shelby Bireley of Salisbury. Price, Jr. took the double break out win with a 7.893/82.46 on a 7.90 dial while Bireley was out by more with a 7.861/77.67 on a 7.90 dial. With the runner-up finish Bireley moved three spots in the standings to take the Jr. Dragster 2 points lead.

 

This week will be another exciting Summit E.T. Racing Series event. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. with time runs at 4:30 p.m. and eliminations at approximately 8:30 p.m.
