DENNIS LONG WINS SUPER PRO SUNDAY AT U.S. 13

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (5/29/11) – Dennis Long of Chesapeake City, Md. added his name to the winner’s list Sunday when he captured the Super Pro final in his seven second dragster as part of the Summit E.T. Racing Series. Hometown driver, David Hornsby wheeled his ’70 Nova to the win in Pro and defending point champion, Charles Nock of Greenwood, Del. rode his ’07 Suzuki to the win in Pro Bike. Other winners on the day included: Harvey Powell of Salisbury, Md. in Bike Trophy; Frank Parks of Denton, Md. in Street Eliminator; Alex Bradford of Newark, Md. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Paul Riddle, Jr. of Millsboro, Del. in Jr. Dragster 2.

Long faced Tim Sinclair of Princess Anne, Md. in his Camaro in the Super Pro final. It was a double break out win for Long who ran a 7.566/177.27 on a 7.57 dial. Sinclair was out by a greater amount as he ran an 8.776/152.31 on an 8.81 dial. Semi-finalist was Bobby Insley of Crisfield, Md. who lost to Sinclair.

In the Pro final it was David Hornsby vs. Ryan Groton of Salisbury. It was a very tight run with Hornsby squeaking out the win with a 10.254/127.40 on a 10.23 dial. Groton ran a 10.129/133.49 on a 10.11 dial but had a .047 reaction to Hornsby’s .035. Semi-finalists were Steve Long of Linthicum, Md. who lost to Groton and Rick Willey of Whaleysville, Md. who lost to Hornsby.

“Smiling� Charles Nock rode up against Will Jensen of Dagsboro, Del. in the Pro Bike final. Nock had the better reaction time and rode to the win with a 9.268/129.51 on a 9.05 dial. Jensen was well off his dial with an 11.348 on a 10.97 dial. Semi-finalist was Chase Brickhouse of Salisbury who lost to Nock.

Frank Parks defeated Rick Walker of Laurel, Del. in the Street Eliminator final. Parks had a .003 reaction light and ran an 11.904/99.29 on an 11.83 dial. Walker had a 12.380/108.69 on a 12.27 dial-in. Harvey Powell rode to the Bike Trophy win over Travis Waters of Delmar, Md. Waters had a red light foul and Powell ran a 17.243/65.47 on a 17.25 dial.

Alex Bradford made it back to back wins as he took the Jr. Dragster 1 final over Tyler Powell of Delmar, Md. The pair were close at the start but Powell was too quick and broke out with an 8.884/73.49 on an 8.90 dial. Bradford took the win with a 9.317/69.30 on a 9.29 dial. In Jr. Dragster 2, Paul Riddle, Jr. was paired against Cortney Cathell of Laurel, Del. Cathell broke out with a 7.895 on a 7.90 dial and Riddle ran a 7.990/81.04 on a 7.97 dial for the win.

This Sunday will be headlined by Jerry Ketterman’s Super Bad 8. Extra cash and contingencies will be on the line for the fastest open wheel and full bodied cars plus all regular Summit E.T. Racing Series classes and Bike Trophy. Gates open at 10 a.m. with time runs and qualifying beginning at 11 a.m.
